Dear MUN Directors,
We cordially invite you to apply to the 27th annual Berlin Model United Nations Conference to be held from November 14th to November 17th at the John F. Kennedy School.
Twenty-seven years ago with the fall of the Soviet Union, both Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and US President George H. W. Bush declared that there was a “new world order.” Most international theorists believe that since the end of the Cold War, the United States has stood as the single superpower on the world stage. Nevertheless, that order is shifting and power is diffusing to non-state actors and transferring to other powers – especially with the rise of China among the E7. At the same time, a greater complexity of relations and interdependence between countries worldwide means that no single nation can respond to and manage global conflicts or crises on its own. In line with Article I of the UN Charter, this reality requires greater global cooperation.
Twenty-seven years after BERMUN was founded, the conference will once again emphasize bolstering international cooperation. This year’s banner theme is “Strengthening Global Cooperation: Navigating Power Politics in a Shifting World Order.” We hope participants will explore the implications and ways of how to harmonize and improve friendly relations in the changing geopolitical environment.
